Project Description
Kitchen Remodel in White Plains, NY
The Big Chill Out Transformation
This kitchen remodel in White Plains took place in one of the area’s most desirable residential buildings. With soaring ceilings and generous natural light, the apartment itself had strong architectural presence — but the kitchen told a different story.
While the rest of the home felt open and thoughtfully designed, the kitchen lagged behind. The layout felt tight, the materials were disconnected from the apartment’s overall aesthetic, and several design decisions limited flow and usability. The space had potential, but it needed a more cohesive vision.
The goal was clear: design a kitchen that felt intentional, balanced, and fully integrated with the rest of the home.
“Video Transformation:
Understanding the Design Challenge
Like many older kitchens, this one tried to do too much within a confined footprint. Dark cabinetry weighed the room down, frosted glass uppers added visual noise without purpose, and a bulky peninsula interrupted circulation and made the space feel smaller than it actually was.
Despite these challenges, the kitchen benefited from one major advantage: height. The tall ceilings presented an opportunity to reframe the space vertically — something the original design had never taken advantage of.
“NEW RENOVATED KITCHEN:
A Strategic Redesign Within the Existing Layout
While the appliance locations were fixed, we approached the project with a clear design strategy rather than letting those constraints dictate the outcome.
The existing cabinetry and flooring were removed, allowing us to rebuild the kitchen with proportion and flow in mind. New custom cabinetry was extended all the way to the ceiling, creating a stronger architectural presence while dramatically increasing storage.
To prevent the tall cabinetry from feeling heavy, glass was introduced into the upper cabinets, lightening the visual mass and allowing the kitchen to breathe.
The original 30-inch range was upgraded to a 36-inch model, better suited to the scale of the room. The refrigerator remained in place but was fully panel-ready, blending seamlessly into the cabinetry and reinforcing a clean, unified look.
Material & Color: The “Big Chill” Moment
From the start, the client was clear: no white kitchen, and no grey.
After exploring several options, the final palette centered around “Big Chill” by Sherwin-Williams — a soft, cool tone that brought calm and sophistication to the space without overpowering it. The color choice tied the cabinetry, finishes, and architecture together, allowing the kitchen to feel refined, modern, and distinctly personal.
The Result: A Kitchen That Belongs
The finished kitchen now feels fully aligned with the rest of the apartment — open, balanced, and intentional. What was once a disconnected space is now a true centerpiece of the home, designed to be both functional and visually striking.
This project is a reminder that a successful kitchen remodel isn’t just about new materials — it’s about proportion, flow, and making the space feel like it was always meant to be there.
