…” A Kitchen Built to Fit the Way They Live”…
Making the Space Work Better
The homeowners reached out because their kitchen no longer worked for how they lived. The space felt tight, closed off, and limited in what it could offer. They wanted a kitchen that felt larger, brighter, and more open, but the existing layout made that difficult.
When we reviewed the space on site, it became clear that the layout could only be improved by rethinking how the kitchen related to the back of the house. Once that direction was established, the project moved forward with a clear goal: create a kitchen that feels open, functional, and built for everyday use.

A Larger, More Functional Kitchen
With the footprint reworked, the kitchen was laid out to support daily life and entertaining. The added space allowed for a large central island that now anchors the room and serves as a true gathering place.
The kitchen includes a professional forty eight inch range, a built in refrigerator, and custom cabinetry that provides ample storage while maintaining clean sightlines. The layout flows naturally and feels balanced, comfortable, and easy to use throughout the day.
Beyond increasing square footage, the focus of the redesign was on improving how the kitchen functioned in everyday life. Circulation paths were refined to reduce congestion, storage was carefully integrated to keep surfaces clear, and key sightlines were preserved so the space feels open and connected to the rest of the home.
Each design decision was made with intention—balancing form and function to support how the homeowners cook, move, and gather throughout the day. The result is a kitchen that feels natural to use, visually balanced, and comfortable at every moment, whether it’s a quiet morning or a full house.
Practical Solutions for Real Life
Every home comes with its own challenges. In this case, one of the most important was accommodating the family’s dogs.
When we first saw the kitchen, a large metal crate sat in the middle of the space. It worked functionally, but it disrupted how the kitchen felt and how it was used.
Our solution was straightforward. We built the crate directly into the cabinetry.
The result is a custom cabinet with an integrated dog crate that blends seamlessly with the rest of the kitchen. Finished to match the surrounding cabinetry and topped with quartz and stone, it feels intentional and permanent rather than like an add on.
Converting the Laundry Area Into a Walk In Pantry
As part of improving how the kitchen functions day to day, we also turned our attention to an existing laundry area located off the kitchen.
Rather than leaving it underutilized, the space was converted into a dedicated walk in pantry designed to serve multiple purposes. Sliding barn doors were added to create separation while keeping the pantry easily accessible from the kitchen.
Inside, the homeowners selected a bold wallpaper and a blue accent color, giving the pantry its own personality while still tying it back to the overall space. To improve privacy and flow, a short hallway was built out between the kitchen and pantry, with a pocket door at the entrance. This creates a sense of separation while keeping everything close and convenient.
The result is a highly functional pantry, additional storage, and a cleaner transition between spaces, all achieved by making better use of the home’s existing layout.
Built for How the Family Lives
The kitchen is the center of this home, and it needed to support more than cooking alone. The family spends a lot of time together in the space, including watching television.
A large television was incorporated into the rear wall in a way that feels natural and balanced within the room. It allows the kitchen to function as a true living space while keeping the overall look clean and organized.
The Completed Kitchen
The finished kitchen brings everything together in a way that feels solid, timeless, and well executed.
A soft gray cabinet palette is paired with quartzite countertops that add depth and movement. The large island includes subtle under counter lighting that improves both usability and atmosphere. Supporting spaces, including the walk in pantry, were carefully integrated to improve organization and everyday function.
Every element was selected and installed with durability, comfort, and long term use in mind. The result is a kitchen and supporting spaces that work together naturally and support how the family uses their home day to day.
What stands out most in this finished space is how effortlessly everything comes together. The kitchen feels open without feeling oversized, refined without feeling formal. Sightlines were carefully considered so the room connects naturally to the rest of the home, while the island anchors the space and encourages gathering. Materials, proportions, and lighting work in quiet harmony, allowing the design to feel cohesive and intentional rather than overdesigned. It’s a kitchen that supports both everyday routines and moments of connection, adapting easily as the pace of the day changes.
