Master Bathroom Renovation in White Plains, NY

Splitting the Difference
(A measured reworking of adjacent space)

A master bathroom should support daily routines without friction. In this White Plains home, the room had all the essentials but none of the ease. Storage was limited, surfaces were scarce, and the layout forced the homeowner to work around the space rather than settle into it.

The most immediate limitation was the pedestal sink. While visually light, it offered no usable counter space and no storage—an ongoing frustration in a bathroom used every day. The room felt tight not because of its size, but because it had never been designed to handle real use.

Reworking the Space

This master bathroom presented a unique challenge within the home—one that could only be resolved by selectively reworking adjacent space. The solution came from what we often call splitting the difference: reclaiming just enough space from the adjacent closet to correct the layout without creating new problems elsewhere.

Rather than forcing new fixtures into an already strained layout, we looked just beyond the room itself. A nearby hallway closet provided the opportunity, though removing it outright would have created problems elsewhere. The solution was a measured one: the closet was divided, allowing the bathroom to gain space while preserving storage for the home.

That decision unlocked the layout.

This project is a clear example of how a bathroom renovation in White Plains can be elevated when layout, storage, and daily use are addressed together rather than treated as isolated upgrades.

A Shower Designed With Intention

With circulation and storage resolved, attention shifted to the shower. The goal here was continuity—materials and details that felt deliberate rather than decorative.

A wall-to-wall quartz bench was integrated into the shower, accented with brass detailing that continues down to the threshold, creating a subtle but unmistakable line through the space. A 60-inch Kohler linear drain was installed along the back wall and inlaid with matching floor tile, allowing it to visually disappear while maintaining proper drainage and performance.

Every element was chosen to feel permanent, cohesive, and quietly refined

That decision unlocked the layout.

With the additional depth, we designed a custom, floor-to-ceiling mirrored medicine cabinet that functions as both storage and a dedicated makeup station. The mirrors reflect light throughout the room, visually expanding the space while keeping everyday items concealed and accessible.

The pedestal sink was replaced with a properly scaled vanity, topped with a hand-selected designer sink chosen by the homeowner. The result is a surface that finally supports daily routines—without overpowering the room.

A Bathroom That Finally Fits the Way It’s Used

This renovation wasn’t about adding luxury for its own sake. It was about correcting a space that had never fully worked. By rethinking the layout, reclaiming adjacent space, and focusing on how the room is actually used, the master bathroom now feels calm, functional, and resolved.

Not larger for the sake of being larger—just finally designed to do its job well.
