Project Description
…Just one word ..”GORGEOUS”…
“Simply Gorgeous”
In what can only be described as one of the most dramatic and transformative interior redesign projects, this one certainly lives up to the title. Not only did it exceed our clients’ expectations, but it also surpassed our own. The project grew and took on a life of its own after the initial design and consultation.
I remember walking through the house for the first time. It was a nice-looking house with great bones—tall ceilings and finishes that were, while good for the time they were built, now dated. Some areas were dark, while others had natural light. The typical wall separations between rooms were present, but they couldn’t take away from the potential of what could be done here.
BEFORE PHOTOS
How does one improve upon a house like this? You could tell the previous owners spared no expense in certain areas, but the kitchen and a few other rooms were built with cheap materials that didn’t quite fit the space. But we were here to do what we do best—take tired, outdated spaces and transform them into something fabulous, pushing them into a new design era. Our work was cut out for us.
Our clients had a strong vision for the space, but what truly made this project successful was the rare opportunity we had to design the house freely, with no restrictions. Though such freedom rarely happens, we thrive when given the creative latitude to think both inside and outside of the box.
Starting with the upstairs bathrooms, we replaced all the worn-out fixtures with modern-day features and technology, including a toilet bowl that nearly does it all, heated floors, heated towel warmers, ample storage, and more. We swapped out the old traditional balusters for simpler metal ones, and a fresh coat of paint and newly stained floors brought new life to the space.
Next, we turned our attention to the main floor, transforming it into a fully developed, functional, and entertaining space.
Kitchen Photos
We began by removing the closet and pantry that divided the room. Once those walls came down, it opened up the space completely. We replaced the mini glass door and oversized transom with a 12-foot-wide glass door that led out to the existing beautiful deck, ensuring we had the views and access we aimed for. But we didn’t stop there. We cut in for a large window nearly the height of the door, which allowed us to bring in even more natural light, deep into the room, ensuring the living room would benefit from sunlight no matter the angle.
You’ve probably heard the saying that there are five walls in a room—this space could serve as a case study for that concept. The nice tall ceilings were just the beginning. The kitchen was the focal point, and everything else in the room revolved around it. We knew we didn’t want to remove the main air supply channel running through the house. While we could have, it wasn’t necessary, and we needed it right where it was. We left the wall stack in place and built a curved banquette around it. Then, we reversed the curve and extended it onto the ceiling to complete the circle. From there, we wrapped the kitchen and living room with a soffit, creating a unique ceiling detail. The crew spent days perfecting the curve, ensuring it was precisely the right shape and size.
And there it was—the amazing work of art and craftsmanship in the kitchen. Over the preceding months, we made numerous design decisions, from drawer styles and appliances to colors and fine-tuning every last detail, all leading up to the installation of a room that had been completely rebuilt to house it.
We customized the refrigerator and freezer with Miele panel-ready appliances, incorporating mirrored glass to reflect the back wall, ensuring the space didn’t feel like a monolithic block of appliances. We added a LED-lit inset section, flanked by pull-out wine glass holders (which were hidden to avoid drawing attention to them), rounding off that section of the wall.
It only made sense that a solid brass pot filler and a super-sized range would be complemented by a stylish custom hood with solid brass accents.
The island was another showstopper. Over 10 feet long, it featured a secretive water filtration system that dispenses both hot and cold seltzer water at the touch of a button. To complete the look, the stunning pendant lights drew the eye into the space.
Next, we designed a curved banquette bench, upholstered for extra seating and concealing even more storage underneath. Above the table, a hand-crafted chandelier hung perfectly in the center of the ceiling circle, creating a balanced design in the banquet nook.
But we didn’t stop there! We moved on to the living room, where we reimagined the traditional wood-burning fireplace, updating it to fit seamlessly into the new transitional modern design. The clients selected a simple quartz with subtle veining, which we transformed into a striking three-dimensional feature that brought the room into focus. Floating cabinets were installed on both sides of the fireplace for additional color and storage. And the picture frame above the fireplace? It’s not a picture at all—it’s an actual TV! We also uncovered an LED light inlay detail in the sheetrock during demo and turned it into an accent wall by adding beautiful wallpaper and wall washers to complete the look.
But we weren’t done yet! We turned our attention to one of the extra rooms off the living room and transformed it into a beautiful office. Inspired by the navy-blue accents in the kitchen, we painted the entire office in a matching blue. With brass handles, a brass light fixture, and a beautiful oak desk, the room struck the perfect balance between masculinity and softness.
The Dining Room
The dining room was tastefully redone. The family’s dining table found its rightful home in this room, and it sat as though the space was designed specifically for it. Beneath a one-of-a-kind chandelier, the table was flanked by custom built-ins on the left and floating storage on the right.
Finally, the foyer. We installed bold black-and-white tiles at the entry, making a statement that was nothing short of spectacular—what else would be fitting for this house? Simply gorgeous!
This project took about 11 months during one of the most challenging times in the country. Through the ups and downs, everyone involved played a vital role in bringing this vision to life. Standing in the space now, watching it transition from a house to a home, seeing family photos on the wall, the dog running around, and feeling the warmth and personality of our clients—this project was worth every challenge. The dedication to bringing solid designs to life was worth it, not only for us but for them… especially for our clients.
Another happy client… and now onto the next. Could it be you? We think it could be!
