This condo kitchen remodel in Mount Vernon, NY started with an unexpected problem. While our client was away, a leaking sink pipe caused water damage that flooded the kitchen. Her insurance company agreed to replace the space, and like many homeowners in that situation, she assumed the simplest path was to recreate what had been there before.
That sent her on a long and frustrating search — showroom to showroom, even crossing state lines — trying to track down an exact replica of the outdated oak cabinetry and Ubatuba granite that originally filled the space. Believe it or not, she actually found the oak door somewhere in New Jersey. That was all before we ever entered the picture.
A Chance Discovery That Changed Everything
One evening, while researching something entirely unrelated, she came across our website. We were local, nearby, and the work resonated with her. She decided to give us a call for a consultation — and that’s when everything shifted.
During our visit, she proudly pulled out the oak cabinet door and the granite sample she had worked so hard to find. Angelica and I looked at each other… then looked back at her… and said, “No way. Absolutely no way.”
It wasn’t about dismissing her — it was about seeing potential she didn’t yet realize was there.
Rethinking the Space from the Ground Up
After the consultation and detailed field measurements, we returned to our office and designed a completely new layout — one that respected the condo’s footprint while dramatically improving storage, flow, and personality.
We scrapped the original plan entirely and redesigned the kitchen with larger upper cabinets, extended all the way to the ceiling with crown molding. This instantly added significant storage and gave the space a more refined, finished look.
The color palette was reimagined to better reflect our client’s warm, lively personality — trading dated finishes for a fresher, more timeless aesthetic. A new island was introduced not just as a work surface, but as a true gathering spot, with seating for four. In doing so, it replaced the table that once sat awkwardly in the middle of the room and opened the kitchen up for everyday living and entertaining.
Bringing the Entire Condo Together
The transformation didn’t stop at the kitchen. The existing parquet floors were sanded and refinished in a smoky gray tone, grounding the space with a modern edge while preserving its character.
REMODELED KITCHEN PHOTOS:
A custom built-in feature wall was designed to house a TV and an electric fireplace, finished with faux brick veneer to add texture and warmth. LED under-cabinet lighting enhanced both function and ambiance, while quartz countertops, pendant lighting, crystal knobs, updated hardware, and fresh paint completed the transformation.
Every element was considered — function, style, practicality, and personality — all working together to elevate the entire condo.
A Space That Finally Felt Like Home
Calling this client “happy” would be an understatement. What began as an insurance-driven replacement turned into a full reimagining of her space — one that felt sassy, classy, comfortable, and entirely her own.
