Project Description
“Scarsdale Whole-Home Remodel with Kitchen Relocation & Redesign”
Project Overview
This Scarsdale home had already been renovated when the family purchased it—but living in the space quickly revealed a deeper issue. While the square footage was generous, the layout worked against everyday life. Storage was inefficient, circulation paths were unclear, and key lifestyle needs hadn’t been fully considered.
Rather than chasing more square footage, the challenge became one of re-thinking how the home functioned. The goal was to make better use of what was already there—creating additional bedrooms, dedicated workspaces, and a kitchen that felt intentional and well placed within the home.
Early recommendations focused on expanding the footprint. But once costs were evaluated, it was clear that a smarter solution was needed—one rooted in planning, proportion, and strategic reallocation of space.
That’s where the design approach shifted.

Kitchen Design & Relocation – Scarsdale, NY
One of the most impactful decisions in this project was relocating the kitchen entirely.
The original kitchen location limited circulation and wasted valuable square footage. Rather than forcing minor upgrades into a flawed layout, we reprogrammed the home by moving the kitchen into a better-suited area, opening up the plan and dramatically improving functionality.
This allowed us to:
-
Create a more open and efficient kitchen layout
-
Add storage where it was previously impossible
-
Improve flow between living spaces
-
Free up the original kitchen footprint for a new bedroom
The result was a kitchen that felt intentional, well-proportioned, and integrated into the daily life of the home — not an afterthought.
This project reflects the type of strategic planning we bring to kitchen remodeling in Scarsdale, especially in homes where space exists but layout is the real challenge.
Re-Thinking the Home Without Adding Square Footage
Once the kitchen relocation solved the biggest spatial constraint, the rest of the home began to fall into place.
Key improvements included:
-
Converting the former kitchen into a fourth bedroom / secondary suite
-
Creating a private office space concealed behind a custom accent wall in the family room
-
Enlarging the primary bathroom by repurposing closet space
-
Finishing the walk-up attic for flexible storage or future use
-
Refinishing flooring and repainting throughout for a cohesive finish
Because the design respected the existing structure, demolition and framing were kept to a minimum — allowing the budget to go further without sacrificing quality or results.
The Outcome
This project delivered two major wins:
-
Every square foot now serves a purpose
-
The home meets the family’s needs without an expensive addition
When we returned to photograph the finished space, the homeowners summed it up best:
“We use every space now. Nothing is wasted.”
That outcome doesn’t come from surface-level renovations — it comes from thoughtful planning, clear priorities, and disciplined execution.
