Small Change, Big Impact

We received a call from a family in Larchmont who had been thinking about remodeling their kitchen, but a water leak forced the timeline forward. What was planned as a future project quickly became something that needed immediate attention.

This wasn’t a project where walls were opened up to create a full open-concept space. In fact, the homeowners preferred separation and we introduced a pocket door to allow the kitchen to be closed off when needed. That decision created more wall space for cabinetry, which they needed, but it also made it more challenging to improve flow and add counter space.

There was an existing pantry wall — the kind of space that tends to become a catch-all, especially for a busy household. Initially, we worked around it. But once demolition began, it became clear that keeping it would limit what the kitchen could become.

We walked the client through the options. Keeping the wall meant a larger pantry but a tighter kitchen. Removing it required structural work, but it would completely open up the layout. They chose to prioritize the kitchen.

Once the wall was removed and properly reinforced, everything changed. The layout was reworked, the range was relocated, and we were able to create significantly more usable counter space. We still incorporated pantry storage, just in a more intentional way, with built-in organizers that worked better for how they actually live.

This is where experience matters. Kitchen remodeling is not just about selecting cabinets — it’s about being able to adjust, redesign, and execute when real-world conditions shift during construction.

The finished space features white solid wood cabinetry with double crown moldings, a drawer microwave, pot filler, and a large 30” undermount stainless steel sink with a tall statement faucet. A bold tile backsplash, 36” professional hood, integrated LED lighting on dimmers, and custom interior cabinet organizers complete the space. New wood flooring ties everything together.

Cabinetry, countertops, and design were provided by the RAJ team, working alongside our recommended contractor and the homeowner to bring everything together seamlessly.
